I have had bad experiences with foundations. They are either too cakey, oily or drying for my skin. Over the past two years, I have only just found my type of “foundation” coverage. BB creams and tinted moisturisers are my saving grace. I have dehydrated skin that can sometimes be oily, so I am always looking for coverage that will not dry out my skin. These products are my favourite light to medium coverage creams (and powder).
Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturiser SPF 15 – Shade 02 http://ow.ly/Y1kZt
My favourite product at the moment is Clinique’s Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturiser. It has a lightweight texture and very easy to blend. It easy to build up coverage and gives a lovely dewy effect. After wearing this moisturiser for a full day, I don’t get any shiny spots. This cream also feels like it is hydrating your skin throughout the day (I’m a big fan of Clinique’s Moisture Surge Collection).
If I can’t afford to buy Clinique I use the two BB creams below – whilst I save up to buy the Clinique’s tinted moisturiser again.
Garnier BB Skin Perfector Oil Free SPF 20 – Light – http://ow.ly/Y1kUo
Similar consistency to the tinted moisturiser above it is easy to apply, however, I am careful with applying this BB cream. Sometimes if you apply too much straight away it can make you look a little too “tanned”. But again easy to build a nice complexion. The only downside of this product is that my face can get a little shiny near the end of the day.
Maybelline Foundation Dream Pure BB cream SPF 15 – http://ow.ly/Y1kWU
Less of a dewy effect but good coverage. With a thicker consistency, this BB cream applies good coverage, especially underneath the eyes and on any blemishes. On the days where I am going out doing errands/odd jobs and don’t want to spend a long time applying makeup I will use this BB cream. It provides good coverage for when you don’t have time to add concealer to blemishes or dark circles.
My tip for applying these products: Even though these products are not heavy foundations I am so concerned about not blending them in properly! I usually wet a makeup sponge or my fingers with water and gently rub around the edges of my face and neck to make sure it is blended in well. I always find that a damp makeup sponge, like the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, makes my makeup set better on my face.
I know I said I haven’t found any good foundations but for a different kind of coverage I sometimes use bareMinerals Matte SPF 15 Foundation (in medium beige) – http://ow.ly/Y1z01
(I personally don’t count this as foundation)
Sometimes I feel my skin needs a break of make-up creams so I use this build-able loose powder. Great coverage, however, I would still need to use concealer to cover up any blemishes and dark circles.
If you have any recommendations for tinted moisturisers or BB creams, please write in the comments below. OR if you think I should have a go at testing out some foundations then please let me know – I’m still on the hunt for a perfect foundation!
